Recently you wrote in a message to Ardith Hinton: DM> Are You native speaker, Ardith? AH> Yes, I am *a* native speaker of English. :-) DM> Are You a native speaker, Ardith? That's better. I realize your dictionaries may be less than helpful here when I see my Canadian dictionaries don't give any examples of "native" as an adjective in combination with "a". But it seems clear to me that in this context both "a" & "native" are functioning as adjectives modifying the noun "speaker". The only other point I have to add WRT this example is to remind you that even though "I" is capitalized in English, other pronouns aren't. DM> ... You have the capacity to learn from mistakes. Indeed. As I used to tell my students, I try to make my classroom a safe place for you to experiment with constructions you're not sure about. :-) --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+ * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716) .
