February 25, 2022 - Dust Storm in Chad

   Thick plumes of pale beige dust blew across eastern Chad on February
   24, 2022. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on
   board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the Saharan
   storm on that same day. The dust appears to rise from the Bodele
   Depression and travels towards the southwest, towards pale green Lake
   Chad.

   Although large, Lake Chad is shallow, and it is not the lowest point in
   Chad. The Bodele Depression, located northeast of Lake Chad sits at a
   lower elevation. It is part of a former lakebed or inland sea and is
   one of the world’s most active sources of windblown dust.
