Subj : Education reform as destruction To : ALL From : BOB KLAHN Date : Sat Dec 28 2013 02:40:28 Another response to an online commentary, that stands on it's own. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It took centuries to build our public education system. Right wingers are destroying it over a few decades. In the 50s and 60s you could say the way to the middle class is through the classroom, and you would be telling the truth. In the '50s and '60s a 7% unemployment rate was considered a near disaster. Today 7% is not only considered the new norm, it's also a lie. The real unemployment rate is more like 14%. As long as we have that the road to the middle class will be more likely through the abortion clinic than the classroom. The best single thing you can do to have financial security is, don't have children. Any solution that doesn't fix that is a failure from the start. A common core curriculum is a very good idea. Grading on test scores isn't really bad. It's doing all that as a hammer on hungry children and families that are desperate that is pure evil. Until we rebuild our society on the basis that having children is not a mistake, don't even try to blame teachers for societies failure to educate our children.
