Subj : Democracy Explained to Kids To : BOB KLAHN From : Lee Lofaso Date : Thu Sep 19 2013 21:02:48 Hello Bob, LL>> On MSNBC, Chris Matthews made a statement that no LL>> Republicans were invited. Michael Steel then corrected LL>> him, explaining how the organizers of the event ran the LL>> show. Steel's explanation was, in effect, the same as what LL>> you wrote. BK>Scott notified the organizers ahead of time he would not be BK>there. The point is, many Republicans could have spoken at the event, had they chosen to do so. LL>> Because no Republicans spoke at the event, it gave the LL>> appearance that Republicans do not care about black folks, LL>> or about MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. Of course, LL>> appearances can be deceiving, as it is silly to think that LL>> all/many/most Republicans are racist. BK>Strom Thurmond had a black daughter he saw to it was well taken BK>care of, Strom Thurmond was a very loving man, having a love child to prove it. Not only that, but unlike many black men, Strom Thurmond was not a deadbeat dad. So don't you go around telling anybody that Strom Thurmond was a racist who did not care about black folks. He loved them. He loved them very much ... BK>George Wallace said it was all politics, yet Thurmond was surely BK>a racist and Wallace played one so well it looks like he really was. In his autobiography, George C. Wallace claims he never used the N-word in public. It was probably a true statement, although impossible to verify. Some of his speeches were written by racists, but does that mean Wallace was a racist himself? In his first run for public office, he ran as a liberal, losing the election. From that point on, he told the people what they wanted to hear, winning several terms as governor of Alabama, and had it not been for a would-be assassin's bullet hitting his spine, would have sent George McGovern back to South Dakota and Richard Nixon back to California. As things turned out, Wallace paved the way for another Southerner to become President - Jimmy Carter. And what a great President he was! BM>> between the elite and the serfs. They speak of the Dems creating BM>the BK> rift but if you look at the entire picture, the reason most BM>people think BK> this icountry s turning towards socialism/communism BM>is very simply BK> explained, AKorporate merika wants it that way. LL>> I was using affirmative action as an example. For a deeper LL>> understanding of how corporations interact among national LL>> security and social welfare policy, you might want to read LL>> "Thinking Through the Cold War", by David Jardin, free LL>> download from smashwords.com BK>Nah... I don't really. And I thought you were a glutton for punishment ... BM>> happened many years ago. When the Irish immigrated here they were BM>> considered a lower species than the blacks. Every race (and yes, BM>> nationality is considered a race, not just color) has had that issue. BK>As the signs said, no colored or Irish need apply. What about Cajuns? Cajuns have been here even before Americans arrived. Maybe we should decide who is the lower species rather than them. But please. Do not tell that to Native Americans. LL>> Sure. Discrimination exists among all races, both within LL>> and between. Andrew Young once said, "We are all racists LL>> and bigots." I tend to agree with that view, with the LL>> caveat it is what we do (as individuals and a people) to LL>> overcome that racism and bigotry that is important. That LL>> was Andrew Young's real message, or what he was trying to LL>> convey to others. BK>Sounds about right. Affirmative action is a form of discrimination. A kind of discrimination many people are in favor of. Especially black Americans. Should we do away with affirmative action? If we do, blacks will accuse us of being racists. And lets not forget about those who claim reverse discrimination. Funny that black folks claim discrimination and white folks claim reverse discrimination. Even though Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said there is no difference between black racists and white racists. I guess The Good Doctor didn't know what he was talking about ... BM>> LOL.... irony as it's best... vote for the man who doesn't give a BM>> rat's ass about you. LL>> You have to remember - we boil our crawfish LIVE. :) BM>> When is Jindal on the menu? BK>He's on the republican's menu. When we pick up our crawfish, they are brown. We heat up the water to the point of boiling, put them in a pot, and cook them live until they turn bright red. And then we eat 'em, in true Cajun fashion - we pinch da tails and suck da heads. After we eat the crawfish, we save the shells. But only the shells of the heads. The other shells are discarded. After cleaning the head shells, we use them to make crawfish bisque. This is a most excellent dish, but takes a lot of time and patience to make. It also takes more boiled crawfish to obtain the meat to put into the shells. Which is why it always takes at least two crawfish boils to make a crawfish bisque. LL>> In the latest poll, Les Miles and Nick Saban are rated LL>> higher than Bobby Jindal. Les Miles I can understand. But LL>> Nick Saban is hated in these parts, pretty much on the same LL>> level as the devil himself. Jindal should consider himself LL>> blessed that he cannot run for a third consecutive term for LL>> governor. :) BK>To lose to someone hated so much would be bad. OTOH, you said BK>Saban is hated on the same level as the devil. Since we are BK>talking about republicans, isn't that a high rating? Look at it this way. Alabama has the devil for a football coach, whose favorite color is red. Louisiana (LSU) has the mad hatter for a football coach, whose favorite food is munching on grass. Jindal claims his favorite food is chocolate chip cookies. However, being a conservative Republican, Jindal does not know what he is missing, never having topped those chocolate chip cookies with a liberal squirt of cheese whiz ... --Lee --- MesNews/1.06.00.00-gb * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2) .
