Back in the 1950's, Isaac Asimov wrote an essay called "The Cult Of Ignorance" decrying this, using the example of a movie, showing a woman who does research, but she isn't "happy" until Mr Tall Dark And Handsome sweeps her off her feet, she dumps her research to marry TD & H.
