I think the only issue with that is, any time the phone rings or pings the kid has to check to see if it's their parents or another kid or some spam thing. Possibly an alternative would be to find a way to block calls during class from everyone but their parents, although I'm not sure it can be set up that exclusively. It's easy to block calls from anyone other than those in your Contacts list (Do Not Disturb rules) but most people have everyone they know in their Contacts list. Hmm..
