I find that sticking to a regular sleep period is indeed a good  
idea. This year was the first time in many years that I  
actually had two days off in a row. When Jan 1 would all on a  
weekday, I'd be back at work the next day. This time Jan 2 fell  
on Sunday, so that was a day off too.  I wouldn't want to feel  
"tired" or trip up my sleep pattern just because of a silly  
midnight tradition.
