If you're looking for military space novels, check out the Ark Royal series 
by Christopher Nuttall. Disgraced general put out to pasture captaining an 
antique spaceship/museum piece ends up at the forefront of a war with an 
unseen enemy. It's got some Battlestar Galactica vibes and is an 
entertaining read.

I've read the first 3 books, which comprised the first story arc, he's 
continued on since then with more books.
