Subj : nntp readers, echomail timing, echomail as rss feeds To : Charles Pierson From : August Abolins Date : Thu Oct 15 2020 20:55:21 On 15/10/2020 12:01 p.m., Charles Pierson : Tommi Koivula wrote: CP> If successful, Theoretically I would have 6 connections to CP> this Echo/Group, not including any BBSes I might log on to CP> testing out Telnet clients. Nothing wrong with that. You're experimenting to see what might be a better solution. Myself, I have about 3 vectors into an echo. They all have advantages. Not all puzzles are easily solved. CP> ...Another Android NNTP reader, which I sent CP> the original message out through, has yet to show any CP> inbound messages. The one you posted using a new Android reader got delivered. But are you saying that the same echo content is not showing up in that reader when you connecting to the SAME bbs? Messages into and out of Veleno (based in Italy) seem to be unpredictable in timing. Maybe things operate at a much slower pace in that country. CP> My Z4 point, I gave myself a problem with. If that was me, the bug would annoy me. But you do have other options. CP> While going through CP> the suggested steps to clear it, without rooting my phone, CP> I accidentally managed to unlink from most echos without CP> realizing. That's not so good. BUT, now you know what you did. That's good! CP> Why would I do this? I'm a certifiable lunatic. You're an investigator / problem-solver at heart. I've looked around the net for something too. There seems to be several that claim to work well. I can't imagine why Y & Z modem would be high on an app programmer's list. Direct http:// links to files makes more sense in these modern apps. But an olmr feature for messages would be smart. Olmr works with Telegram, sorta. CP> search has some RSS and Forum readers in it. So a vague CP> idea I had years ago came back to me. Why couldn't a Web CP> Forum work as an FTN style network node? An RSS feed for an echo would be interesting. But RSS seems be broken in modern web browsers. The newer Firefox version on Win7 doesn't support it properly. But it works ok on my XP machines. Therefore, not sure if RSS would be a selling point advantage for new people who have the latest programs and new pcs. At least one of the forum programs that I CP> looked at had the capability to connect with Usenet and CP> email lists. So, if that is possible, and FTN networks can CP> be gated to both Usenet and email lists, it should work. Synchronet bbs software provides a forum-like webby interface option. Some BBSes use it. Apparently it looks and operates quite well on a smartphone/tablet. CP> Did I mention I'm running in 2 hours of sleep in 3 days?
