Yes.. technically, he becomes the next ruler 'immediately'  
after the death of the queen.

But it takes a little while for everyone to update their  
allegiances "ie. bowing for the [updated] royals" and the re- 
swearing of the allegiances to the king instead of the queen  
now, etc.

Yeah.. and what gives them the right to maintain this  
pretentious position?

Today, they serve little more than being a tourist attaction,  
really.

The queen never expressed options on politics nor tried to  
influence things.  Her goal was to maintain the hereditary  
status quo and live a peaceful yet privileged life.
