I have found that some flavors of Linux have problems with Intel based PC's. I 
know one Intel P4 machine here that has had a number of problems getting  
Ubuntu to work on it. Only after modifying the Grub config and updating the 
kernel did it run without locking up or crashing. The other PC's here are all 
64b AMD based and have had no problems running Linux be it Ubuntu or Debian.
