Does anyone know an iPhone user who you could entice to give  
the Telegram + @Fido2telebot solution a try?

I use it on a modest Blackberry Q10 (Android 4.3) myself.  The  
screen is not ideal for incoming originally wide lines (the  
body of the text tends to honour the presence of hard CRs., and  
the since the screen is a perfect 2"x2" square, there is no  
landscape-view option.  However, I understand that smartphones  
with 16:9 screens can be tilted horizontally to get a better  
representation of some messages that arrive in the original 70- 
80char per line form.

And.. I also use the desktop version which I find is the  
easiest way to produce a reply.
