Subj : Amiga and ST To : Greg Goodwin From : Andy Ball Date : Sun Feb 29 2004 21:33:04 Hello Greg, GG> All I can say is wow. I guess I will have to see more 1200's in > action. They sound like good machines that people are always > torn on wiether to keep in the keyboard and computer in one > design, or break out from that and start expanding. The A1200 is a nice machine: 16 MHz 68020 (near as makes no odds) and I ran a 68882, possibly at 32 MHz and a 4Mb SIMM (in addition to the soldered 2Mb). Both FPU and SIMM socket were on a card that lived in the trapdoor slot. A friend of mine added a 68030+68882 to his, both running at 50 MHz. He eventually went the tower route. GG> Reminds me of my Atari 1040 STE. :) (Expanded to 4 meg.. blah > blah blah...) The 1040 STE was a nice machine, but not really in the same class as an A1200, which had a 32-bit bus and room for a 2.5" ATA hard disk internally (that said, if you've got a 1040 laying around somewhere... ;-) GG> Yeh, sounds like the Amiga is either the parallel for the 1040 > STE or the Falcon. Not sure which yet. That's not comparing like with like. An Amiga 500 would be a suitable match for an STE - but more expandable, with a more sophisticated (and complicated) operating system. An A1200 is more like a TT than a Falcon, since it has a full 32-bit bus, yet lacks the DSP. - Andy. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5 # Origin: FamilyNet Sponsored by http://www.christian-wellness.net (8:8/2) * Origin: BBS Networks @ www.bbsnets.com 808-839-6036 (1:10/345) .
