better to look in the thrift shops these days... you'd be surprised what folks take in to them for others to pick up and enjoy... i once found a complete C-64 with original packing, manuals, software with additional hardware and software in a local thrift store for $20US... if i had had the cash available, i'd have grabbed it then...

yeah, some ports do not like being connected and disconnected while powered up... old SCSI is especially bad about it... it definitely doesn't like having the wrong device plugged into it, either... eg: centronix ports used for different items like printers and external SCSI HDs or scanners...
