Gavin Newsom released details about his multibillion-dollar > plan to tackle the homeless crisis in the Golden State and is pushing cities > and counties to take "immediate action." > On Monday, Newsom shared a model ordinance for cities and counties to > "immediately address dangerous and unhealthy encampments and connect people > experiencing homelessness with shelter and services." If what I saw when I was out in the LA area < 2 yrs ago is any indication, there likely are not enough "shelters and services" to make much of a dent in the encampment populations. There were strings of old RVs and other quasi-mobile homes and tents strung out for over a mile on Valley Blvd, and for miles along San Fernando (on both sides of the street). There were people living, and defecating, in the vestibules at the bottoms of the overhead walkways in Long Beach, and apparently living in the restrooms there at the aquarium and also at Santa Monica Pier. So not just in places that tourists won't usually go. > "Local leaders asked for resources - we delivered the largest state > investment in history. They asked for legal clarity - the courts delivered. > Now, we're giving them a model they can put to work immediately, with urgency > and with humanity, to resolve encampments and connect people to shelter, > housing, and care. The time for inaction is over. There are no more excuses," > California Gov. Gavin Newsom said. I actually assumed they gave some of them the broken down RVs and trailers along the streets... otherwise, I am not sure how some of them got there as they didn't appear to be in a very "mobile" condition. * SLMR 2.1a * Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you are. --- SBBSecho 3.20-Linux * Origin: capitolcityonline.net * Telnet/SSH:2022/HTTP (1:2320/105) .
