Everyone has been victimized by the government in one way or another; why not focus on government-mistakes more recent & relevant than slavery? Who's in office right now cracking that slavery whip? The government used to allow lead paint for residential use; should descendants of lead paint victims sue the government? How will it feel for a white guy like me to knock on a black person's porch with a check in my hand saying "I'm sorry for the slavery! I think you should have this money because someone with the same skin color as me enslaved your ancestor." We're suing ourselves. Will descendants be exempt from the slave-tax? Will we (the plantation owners) be paying for the millions of DNA tests that will need to be examined to prove descendant-ship? Slavery is to blame for any economic problem any descendant is suffering from right now. The government didn't have insurance to cover this type of lawsuit back then, so if it costs too much to pay all these reparations, do we just smack the rubber against the paper? This is disrespectful to the actual slaves in many layers. Most strikingly, it will persuade many descendants in the the voting booth. How heroic will a democrat be in their tv commercial when they say "I voted in favor of reparations, but we're not done yet! Vote for me and we'll give you some more reparations! This will never be over!"Brand recognition is powerful.. If there's not enough money for this effort, we can enslave the whites for an equal number of years as the other slaves were enslaved. That's kinda what we're doing here anyway; on a smaller scale. LL> But it could apologize, and at least pay a generous amount to show Why apologize for something you didn't do? A bad cop killed an innocent man today. 200 years from now, can descendants of that innocent man sue the police department, if it still exists? --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A39 2018/04/21 (Raspberry Pi/32) * Origin: Alcoholiday / Est. 1995 / alco.bbs.io (1:123/525) .
