If liberals were the goodie-goodies they claim to be, then I'd > give them much more credit. I'd like to see politicians of *all* stripes fighting for the rights of *all* Americans rather than for just a select few. It's too bad that we have become a country that is not "we the people" but rather "we the rich". Sure, the Framers of the Constitution wrote the document, which opens "We the people" - referring to themselves. Rich, white Anglo Saxon males who owned property (including slaves). A flawed document, to be sure. Amended 27 times since it was passed and ratified. And still not perfect. Politicians of both political parties are guilty of favoring the wealthy, rather than protecting the rights of those who are less fortunate. Why not do away with the death penalty, since black folks are far more likely to be done away with than white folks? Is it because of race? Or because white folks are wealthier? When was the last time a rich man (or rich woman) was sentenced to death, and that sentence carried out, in this country? It is not just the death penalty. Black folks are given harsher sentences that white folks who have been convicted of the same crime. White folks are often given probation rather than having to serve any time in jail/prison. But hey. That is a reflection of who we are, as a society. What will happen when white folks are no longer the majority? It is only a matter of time when that happens. Not a question of if. That day will come within our own lifetimes. Some will love it. Others will hate it. But it will come. I raised a question as to why those who are receiving SSI are forced to live in sin rather than marry. Those who receive SSDI are not forced to live in sin rather than marry since they have earned those benefits. But those on SSI have earned nothing, so are entitled to nothing in return. At least, that is my guess. What a sick society we are. Giving less to those who are less fortunate. Just because we can. --Lee -- I Take A Sheet In The Pool --- MesNews/1.08.05.00-gb * Origin: - nntp://rbb.fidonet.fi - Lake Ylo - Finland - (2:221/360) .
