I live in NY, and I watched our leftist >governor shut down a mental heath treatment center in my city, and turn it >into a drug addiction treatment center. Now, the same guy is advocating >illegal immigration, which I believe fuels illicit drug use. Addiction is a medical condition. Whether it is drugs or alcohol, gambling or tech, or some other addiction, it is still a medical condition. There used to be many public drug addiction treatment centers. Drugs and alcohol are two of the main addictions (medical conditions) that people suffer from. However, many of those public centers have been closed due to budget cuts. In their place are many private drug addiction centers. A whole lot of them, not just a few. People who need treatment for their medical condition have insurance, which pays the bill for going to those private drug addiction centers. Those who do not have insurance have to find a public drug addiction center. But there are not enough public drug addiction centers, as most that are still around have few (if any) beds available. Federal regulations put a limit of 28 days for folks to undergo treatment, in order to keep costs down. After those 28 days, folks have to return to wherever they came from. Those who have no place to go are left homeless. Until the next time they have a relapse. About 90% of those with this medical condition have a relapse within a year. Which means those who are homeless are usually only homeless a few times a year, rather than year-round. Unless they have been busted for drugs, and a judge mandates they undergo treatment as part of their probation to stay out of jail. Which makes it a revolving door kind of thing. >What makes you think the left isn't in line with the disabled? Follow the money. The Progressive magazine wrote a nice article on this subject. --Lee -- I Take A Sheet In The Pool --- MesNews/1.08.05.00-gb * Origin: - nntp://rbb.fidonet.fi - Lake Ylo - Finland - (2:221/360) .
