I'll bet I've been using IRC a lot longer than you have, and many IM 
apps over the years, and I don't do that.  Neither does anyone I know.

Why would you *WANT* to appear to be sloppy/lazy/illiterate?  Sorry, but 
I don't understand that kind of behavior.  Is it really that much harder 
to write properly?  Are you in that much of a hurry that you can't do 
it?
