I don't care who is reading transfers of publicly available messages, files and information but at least the passwords should be encrypted if possible. As said before, i try to switch from telnet to ssh where ssh is offered. And in general, i think to encrypt everything should be the default, no matter how valuable the information is. It is ok when the protocols without encryption are needed for backwards compatibility and to keep the retro systems alive and connected.
