I think that, unless you use some OS specific application, upgrading that
machine to Linux is a no-brainer.

Not because of Facebook specifically. A lot of not-so-modern web applications
will give you trouble with old browsers and operating systems.

Not to mention it is reckless to use an old unsuported OS in an Internet facing
machine.

Given the upgrade cost is zero, you could make yourself a gift and use
something more recent.
