You can use SMTP from *any* mail server to a smartphone's "text" messaging 
app if you know the proper information, and your limited in the amount of
text you may send. While it may not be a direct SMTP system, it is somewhat
SMTP/text based. The same applies to many different apps including the
Winlink system used by hams.
