You'd still want a transit LAN in front of your subnet; although I suppose 
the routing would be an unscaleable nightmare.

With a transit LAN you could set up a firewall with one of the transit LAN 
IPs on the WAN side and your "personal" network on the LAN side. You'd still 
have access to all of the systems to/from the internet, but control them 
through the firewall.
