This. I have no general problem with guns, but I don't see why you shouldn't
need to have a license, registration, and maybe even insurance in the same way
that you would a car. We make people do that to own a car so that we know that
they have at least a marginal idea of how to operate it, and won't go driving
on sidewalks mowing people down. In the same vein, I don't see why you
shouldn't be properly trained and licensed to use any kind of a gun as well.
Cos I'd much rather you understand how it works, than just be some schmo that
walked off the street and bought a rifle from Wal-Mart with nothing except
"guns are cool" as background.
