The CGI is pretty rough, but I like the space station formula - they didn't 
need to do an "episode in a bottle" with a new alien each week and could do 
a story arc.

I know you said no Star Trek, but have you seen Deep Space 9 yet? The latter 
half consists of season-wide story arcs, lots of character development.

Not exactly Science Fiction, but Mr. Robot or Halt and Catch Fire are good 
watches.
