okay i looked into this and apparently fox stated that it will not release television series in blu-ray due to licensing issues with streaming platforms.

you can DOWNLOAD them from a torrent site after buying the DVD and that might be semi-fairuse legal.

you can also 'buy' the hd episodes on  itunes, google play, amazon prime and vodu.

it looks like the x-files is the last series they did in blu-ray.

I never jumped on the blu-ray bandwagon and i haven't used opticaldrives in over a decade.
