The medical condition may not have even been known... it was a joke 
about a woman cutting all her hair off.  Regardless of the joke, the 
response was in poor taste.  Also, generally speaking at award shows, 
anyone in the audience is considered fair game for the host.  It's not a 
full on roast, but there are always roast-like jokes.
