Yeah, commercials can get annoying.  Though when DVRing TV content with Plex, one thing it can do is auto-detect commercials.  It has an option to leave the commercials in but mark them to be skipped (so when playing back the recording, you can have it skip commercials), or to remove the commercials altogether.  Its commercial detection isn't perfect though, hence the various options.
