I was always taught, as a U.S.-born Cuban-American, to be proud of my culture, but prouder even still of being an American. I credit that mindset as being widely pervasive in the Cuban-American Community: we all know English fluently, we are all politically and civically active in American society, and in most cases, there's really no interest in "returning to Cuba" (far from it). Perhaps we better fit the mold of the classic immigrant population for the United States - those seeking a better life for themselves and their children, and to start a new future in the American Dream. > It has no basis in history, but what about in the "right now"? I think insular communities emerge for a variety of reasons, but we have an obligation as a welcoming country to provoke and persuade these communities to open up, engage, and integrate and assimilate into the American melting pot. Their traditions, cultures, world-views, etc., make America stronger. But they must, you know, "melt." > The key words are "integrate and assimilate." 100%. _____ -=: Kaelon :=- --- þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.net .
