I thought metro US areas were the most expensive, barring European capitals. 
California real estate in San Francisco and San Jose is crazy.

We've been watching too many "House Hunters International" and "Escape to 
the Country" on HGTV, thinking we'll sell when we retire and end up with a 
little empty-nest place in the Cotswalds for what we paid for a down payment 
here on the California coast. I've already got a barn coat and old Land 
Rover picked out.
