In my opinion, the expertise and dedication that you would gain by using a service by our own Marisa completely outweighs saving a few bucks a month...

Marisa is a part of the Synchronet team and the amount of hard work and knowledg that she provides is awesome. And I've learned all this without even purchasing any of her services. Also, she made an awesome offer for basic BBS hosting earlier this month, due to extra bandwidth and kind of as a nice coronavirus times gesture.

Her service would be the only external source I'd ever run a sync board on... but yes, you could use one of those cheaper services and do everything on your own - I think that what you gain by hanging out with the synchronet team is so worth every penny.
