Yeah, I may have been a little younger than you (maybe 11?) but I hadn't seen
tons of horror at that point - the stuff I'd seen was mostly stuff that had
an element of cheesiness (the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, for instance.)
Who knows. 

In any case, I still wouldn't argue that T2 was a straight up horror/thriller 
like The Terminator was, and the latter movies far less so, so your
overarching point stands. :)
