Yep, but that's the thing that sucks, is there's no way for the seller to
know when it got cracked if it left his possession crack-free. That he
refunded you half the money seems to suggest to me that he realized that it
might've been you or the carrier, but with no real way to know.

I know it sucks, but it's probably the best you can get for what happened.
