I'm not sure A> where the confusion is? Humm, this sounds like a software issue and not hardware. This is what I have in my server: CPU: Logical processors: 8 Processor type: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31240 @ 3.30GHz Sockets: 1 Cores per socket: 4 Hyperthreading: Yes, enabled My vm's have these cpu's configured. Lennier: 2 Vorlon: 1 Xigmanas: 2 Pfsense: 1 Dragon: 1 I have just created a test one with this cpu set: Test: 6 I also just played around with the config: I could have 6 cores, one socket or 1 core 6 sockets. With each config, the Debian 12 install booted up and I could log in and cat the /proc/cpuinfo to show the number of cpu's. Even do normal updates, run programs etc. >> They are given x number of cores they can use, and will only see that >> number. They could be running on core 1,3,5,6 and will not know that. As >> far as the VM sees it's got access to 4 cores and that's what it >> will/can use. A> Right. When all 4 VMs are running, ESXi doesn't let me setup another VM, A> because all 8 are being used. Can you post a screen shot of the error? A> If I were to shut down a VM, then I would probably have 2 cores A> available to setup a new one, but then I wouldn't be able to run all 5 A> VMs at the same time. One would always have to be turned off.
