The control freaks still like to have their way in a few echoes. Especially 
the dead ones. Posting monthly "rules" in some vain attempt to keep things 
alive. For example, there are several BBS echoes that are just outright 
dead... but attempting to politely suggest a consolodation and you get flamed.

A lot of the censorship mentality was along the lines of, well, you're a guest
in my home so you better take your shoes off at the door ala no swearing, etc 
etc.

I know for a fact some echoes are moderated by folks who like to keep things 
squeaky clean but behind the scenes they curse like sailors.
