2026-09-17 23:03:46 UTC DATA-driven BASIC In the beginning, 1964, BASIC didn't have an INPUT statement, the standard way to get data in was READ & DATA. This was quickly fixed, so people could make games & ask your name before printing giant banners on teh line printer. While I prefer to manually assign most array variables, so you see which index is assigned to each value, I'm aware this was not a common view, and a lot of old BASIC programs were harder to convert. No more! I've added DATA, READ, & RESTORE statements! will now show it reading 6 values, crashing if you run out of data. See also some fun times with: (you'll still have to split lines at :, and split INPUT into two, but it doesn't use any TRS-80 specific graphics)
