Among these are references to a "GeForce RTX 3060" with 8 GB of memory, and more interestingly, a 20 GB variant of the RTX 3080. The list also confirms the <a href="https://www.techpowerup.com/271676/lenovo-lists-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-with-16gb-gddr6-memory" target="_blank">RTX 3070S with 16 GB of memory</a>.<br />

22 The RTX 3080 launched last week comes with 10 GB of memory across a 320-bit memory interface, using 8 Gbit memory chips, while the RTX 3090 achieves its 24 GB memory amount by piggy-backing two of these chips per 32-bit channel (chips on either side of the PCB). It's conceivable that the the RTX 3080 20 GB will adopt the same method. There exists a vast price-gap between the RTX 3080 10 GB and the RTX 3090, which NVIDIA could look to fill with the 20 GB variant of the RTX 3080. The question on whether you should wait for the 20 GB variant of the RTX 3080 or pick up th 10 GB variant right now, will depend on the performance gap between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. Possibly its most cost-effective card based on the $1,500 GPU, the Turbo Edition features a classic lateral-blower based cooling solution that guides all its air through an aluminium channel-type heatsink, and out of the rear bracket, with none of it exhausted into the case. This is a bold choice for a cooler given the feisty 350 W typical board power for the RTX 3090. The card is exactly 2 slots thick, and just 26.6 cm long, making it possibly the shortest air-cooled RTX 3090. It's a little over 11 cm tall (standard full-height). An interesting design choice by GIGABYTE is to locate the card's two 8-pin PCIe power connectors at the tail end of the card. GIGABYTE didn't reveal whether the card features factory-overclocked speeds, but we expect it to stick to reference speeds. The RTX 3080 VISION OC combines a black PCB with a mostly-white cooling solution that's characteristic of the VISION design scheme, along with some brushed aluminium accents. <br />

38 The top of the card features a large silicon ARGB diffuser that lights up in any color or transitions of color. The triple-slot, triple-fan cooler uses multiple aluminium fin-stacks skewered by six 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes that pull heat over a copper base-plate. The cooler is longer than the PCB, so GIGABYTE punched holes through the back-plate to let airflow form the third fan through. GIGABYTE ships the card with a yet-unspecified factory-overclock. The card draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include two HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 1.4a connectors. The card is 32 cm long and 12.6 mm tall, and needs three slots in your system. It's a bit like a Dali painting, with surrealist expectations, a whispered "NVIDIA's Ultimate Play" through virtual hallways, blink-and-you-missed-it details materialized in stock availability, and science-fiction-worthy bots scouring all available stores for their deployment overlords. Wherever you turn, there are would-be buyers complaining of furious F5 attempts (we heard F5 key replacements are also out of stock these days), with store availability going from "available soon" to "out of stock" faster than a single DOOM Eternal frame can be rendered. Most webstores crashed in one way or another, multiple buyers got attributed the same card from a webstore stock, and even NVIDIA's own store (you know, the one powered by the company who actually drives some of the world's fastest supercomputers) faltered under the pressure.<br />

47 In other corners of the Internet, however, expectations were met and attempts flourished. These seem to have been mostly met by scalpers, though, so there is nothing idyllic in this particular painting - it's more akin to Edvard Munch's The Scream than it is Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night. On eBay, an RTX 3080 card was allegedly sold for 70,000$ - a particularly criminal act, if I've ever seen one. It's also common, right now, to see some of these going for prices ranging between $1,300 and $5,000 - and at this point, this writer feels he's almost out of metaphors for this particular situation. Apparently, a service named Bounce Alerts was used - it appears that most RTX 3080 orders were done through this service, which automatically bought as much RTX 3080 stock as it could from wherever they were sold. A user reported having acquired some 42 RTX 3080's from the NVIDIA store before stock ran out. The "Vermeer" MCM implements the company's "Zen 3" microarchitecture in the client segment. It features up to two 7 nm-class CPU complex dies with up to 8 cores, each, and a refreshed cIOD (client IO die). AMD has allegedly improved the cIOD with a new memory controller and several new toggles that improve memory bandwidth. The cIOD combines a PCI-Express Gen 4 root complex with a dual-channel DDR4 memory controller. With "Zen 3," AMD is also introducing an improved boosting algorithm, and an improved SMT feature.<br />

56 Coming back to AMD's rumored nomenclature, and we could see the company bumping up its processor model numbers to the 5000 series for equivalent core-counts. For example, the Ryzen 9 5900X is a 12-core/24-thread part, much like the 3900X; whereas the Ryzen 7 5800X is an 8-core/16-thread part. This flies in the face of rumors that AMD could take advantage of the 8-core CCX design of the "Zen 3" microarchitecture by carving out 10-core parts using two CCDs with 5 cores enabled, each. The reason AMD is skipping the 4000 series numbering with "Vermeer" probably has something to do with "Renoir" taking up many of the 4000-series model numbers. "Renoir" is based on "Zen 2," and recently made its desktop debut, albeit as an OEM-exclusive. The company is planning to introduce certain 4000G series models to the DIY retail segment. 149 Buried in the bowels of the driver change-log is a big disclosure, that the RTX 30-series "Ampere" GPUs don't support SLI (as in implicit multi-GPU), only explicit multi-GPU through modern APIs such as DirectX 12 and Vulkan (if supported by the game). NVIDIA has already restricted the NVLink interface needed for SLI only to its topmost RTX 3090 SKU, so the lack of implicit multi-GPU effectively marks the end of SLI for future GPUs. That said, the technology itself is very much present on all GPUs that support it, provided games do. NVIDIA announced the GeForce RTX 30 series "Watch Dogs: Legion" + GeForce NOW bundle. The table shown below includes information dating to April 2020, so it is possible that some things are now different and they surely are. There are a few quite interesting notes from the image, namely the price increase as the node shrinks. <br />

204 From 90 nm to 20 nm, the price of the wafer didn't increase as much, however, starting from 16/12 nm node(s), TSMC has seen costs per wafer, and other costs increase exponentially. For example, just compare the 10 nm wafer price of $5992 with the price of a 5 nm wafer which costs an amazing $16988. This is more than a 180% price increase in just three years, however, the cost per transistor is down as you get around 229% higher density in that period, making TSMC actually in line with Moore's Law. Performance issues with Project CARS 3 with performance metrics overlay has been fixed. A couple of installer errors when installing the drivers on Ryzen Mobile processors with Radeon graphics have been fixed. Power-cycling certain displays with FreeSync enabled causes them to remain black, this has been fixed. A screen flickering with Borderlands 3 with Radeon Boost enabled, has been fixed. Decoding HEVC content using AMF decoder resulting in video output corruption has been fixed. Bugs related to the application of performance fan profiles have been fixed. Their custom watercooling line, the Hydro X Series, is not always one of them and so we end up seeing quiet updates without a press release or even a direct note from their representatives to the media. With the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000-series cards coming in three different categories as far as custom watercooling goes (reference, Founders Edition, AIC-variants), we took the weekend to briefly check what the usual custom watercooling suspects were up to. <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/nvidia-ampere-architecture" target="_blank">A page</a> on the CORSAIR website confirms, among other things, that Hydro X GPU blocks are on the way for at least the reference PCB, if not more.<br />

We have detailed reviews of both (<a href="https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-hydro-x-series-xc7-rgb-cpu-water-block/" target="_blank">XC7</a>, <a href="https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-hydro-x-series-xc9-rgb-cpu-water-block/" target="_blank">XC9</a>) for those who want to see, and our review of the <a href="https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-icue-nexus/" target="_blank">iCUE Nexus</a> also showed a rebranding in the making for the company. The updated CPU blocks carry the new wordmark design for the logo on all 5 SKUs and, more importantly, change the mounting mechanism to allow for a captive system with new thumb screws that should make installation even easier on all Intel and AMD CPU sockets. This should bring with it increased compatibility with crowded m-ITX motherboards as well, and we see it reflected in the additional 719 motherboards in the compatibility list relative to before. Finally, a motherboard ARGB LED adapter is now included in the packaging, so you can use the integrated lighting with motherboard LED headers and control software, should you not want to pony extra for CORSAIR's ecosystem. Pricing for the Hydro XC7 is now $5 higher and the same as the XC9, which is confusing given it uses fewer fins on the cold plate and, the launch versions at least, employed a plastic trim compared to the metal on the XC9. We have contacted the company for clarification on this, and will update the post as we receive more information.<br />

This announcement comes after Microsoft recovered its data center capsule from the seafloor alongside the Orkney Islands after a two-year-long deployment. The self-contained server pod (made up of 12 racks and 864 servers) was filled with nitrogen, and achieved a much lower failure rate - component-wise - compared to traditional onshore data centers. In fact, its failure rate was one-eight that of traditional servers. The absence of oxygen and lower humidity levels (no need to keep air comfortable and breathable for human technicians) may have been deciding factors in this failure rate.<br />

For one, all that cold water really helps in cooling down the components inside - there's no need for added expense in cooling solutions. There is also no need for land acquisition or infrastructure development that's typically associated with onshore server sites. This 8 GB of GDDR6 detail is interesting, as it points towards a 256-bit memory bus - one that is expected to be paired with the 512 EU version of Intel's DG2 (remember that a 384 EU version is also expected, but that one carries only 6 GB of GDDR6, which most likely means a 192-bit bus.<br />

What is even more dangerous is that the Elasticsearch cluster was not only exposed to the internet, however, it was also indexed by a search engine, making the data more easily searchable and discoverable. This is a pure admin fail, no hacking was required, they just left the front door open. It is reported that the yields are gradually improving but have not yet reached the level needed to have a stable supply. This represents a big problem for the company and we don't know who is to blame. TSMC has been very good at manufacturing 7 nm silicon, however, it could be bad design from AMD and Sony that is making the production difficult. From here, five 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes make direct contact with the CPU, conveying heat to a stack of ring-shaped anodized aluminium fins. The fin-stack is ventilated by a high-RPM 60 mm lateral flow fan with a somewhat cylindrical impeller, located underneath the top-plate. <br />

The fan features a hydraulic bearing, and is rated for 60,000 hours MTBF. The cooler measures 100 mm x 100 mm x 145 mm (WxDxH). AeroCool claims that the Mirage 5 can handle thermal loads of up to 150 W TDP. Among the CPU socket types supported are LGA2066, LGA1200, LGA115x, and AM4. Each 12 V pin of the connector is rated for 9 A current, which means the cable is capable of ferrying up to 540 W of power. On one end of the cable are two 8-pin 12 V connectors (which plug into the 12 V modular back-plane of your PSU), and on the other is one 12-pin connector. The cable is 75 cm in length. Interestingly, the company deployed its first-generation Xtracking 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash chips instead of its <a href="https://www.techpowerup.com/265699/ymtc-launches-128-layer-3d-nand-flash-memory-chip" target="_blank">2nd generation 128-layer QLC</a> chips. <br />

This makes sense, as Samsung has a considerable product portfolio - including lucrative memory fabrication - from which it can pool resources so as to lower pricing for new manufacturing technologies, whereas TSMC can only count on revenues it brings in from contracted silicon manufacturing deals.<br />

The 45 W high-performance parts can feature between 4, 6, and 8-cores - but additional space taken up by the CPU cores is thus unavailable for GPU resources, which top out at 32 Intel Xe EUs (and will make use of a BGA1787 socket). Inside, a copper monoblock heatsink pulls heat from all four drives. Each of the four internal M.2 NVMe drives features 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, and Phison E16 controllers. With NVMe RAID striped, the card offers peak performance of up to 15,000 MB/s sequential reads, and up to 9,500 MB/s sequential writes. Random access performance is rated at up to 425,000 IPS 4K random reads, and up to 440,000 IOPS 4K random writes. GIGABYTE is backing the drive with a 5-year warranty. The max GPU Boost frequency is pegged at 1860 MHz. There's no word on availability.
