after running for a whole week, snac now takes up
almost 80MB and i'm worried about the memory
climb. i tried purging old timeline data but
nothing happened. i'm going to restart the service
now and see if that helps any.

snac has been running for 5 days straight without
crashing, and has climed to 65MB.

i'm starting to think maybe i want to purge the
timeline every 10 days instead of every 30 and see
if that helps with the memory growing, or maybe i
just want to have a cron job that resets the
service every so often.

i got to sleep over at my friends place last night
and play kentucky route zero :)

i have been running the snac2 fedi server for a
few days now and i hope it works well in the long
run. it went from using 17MB to 50MB of memory in
three days, which isn't too bad, but i clear the
timeline every 30 days, so i'm going to keep it up
until then and see exactly how much memory it's
gonna want to use (though it'll probably grow
steadily over time as well)

i hope it scales well. i probably won't follow
accounts that do a lot of boosting, and if i can
i'll probably drop boosts altogether to save on
bandwidth & timeline size but i'll see if i have
to do that or if it'll just be fine uwu

i put a computer clipart on cipay.ca's website. i
got it from '10,000 graphics pack vol. 3' which i
found at a thrift store. i edited it in gimp.

i also edited the website a bit. i added a page on
xmpp and on gopher and i did some minor css tweaks
and that was fun :3

i just plugged in my raspberry pi to ethernet
instead of wifi and i think it's doing wonders for
speed.

also i installed netbsd onto an old pentium iii
desktop pc. i switched to alpine for a bit but it
was always a netbsd machine in my mind, so i
decided to return :3

i added TLS support to geomyidae by adding the
following flag to /etc/rc.d/geomyidae

-t /var/geomyidae.key /var/geomyidae.crt

and using the 'tls-gen-selfsign.sh' script found
within the geomyidae source distribution.

so now you can access 'gophers://cipay.ca'
from a client that supports the URL scheme.

also, my changes to the emacs 'gph' mode were
incorporated into geomyidae so i'm happy with that
:3

i moved from guixsd to debian. i don't distrohop
often, but its a fun treat. i'm rarely at my
desktop computer anymore, so i'd rather have
something a little more stable for the time being.

so i found that in geomyidae's source code, there
is an emacs mode for .gph files. it's pretty bare,
so i extended it:

C-c ,     - insert manual link
C-c C-l   - format a gopher:// url to a link

now i can press C-c , and it asks me:
 type:   f (for file)
 label:  my cool file
 path:   ./file.txt
 server: <return> for the default
 port:   <return> for the default

and it outputs to:
[0|my cool file|./file.txt|server|70]

or i can press C-c C-l and it asks:
 URL:   gopher://cipay.ca/0/~lin/log.txt
 Label: my log

and it outputs to:
[0|my log|/~lin/log.txt|cipay.ca|70]

i'm learning how to use M-x artist-mode in emacs.

i made the computer drawing shown on cipay.ca's
gopher homepage, and my self-portrait today.

i also learned some ffmpeg to make audio files
much smaller! thanks to tilde.town/~fruit

i just spent the past few days redoing salicis'
website. i think it would be good to use a static
site generator in the future but for now it's
okay as just plain html.

this was a good reminder to practice editing text
more. i kept holding down ctrl in emacs because i
forgot the proper modal keys to move stuff around.

hello hello! this log file will be for smaller
updates about cipay.ca and whatnot. i'm linen :3

i just changed my domain broker from truehost.ca
to gandi.net, because truehost keeps trying to
sell me their ai website builder, but gandi
doesn't even mention ai on their site

plus truehost's dns manager kept breaking on me
and i'm not gonna open a support ticket for the
millionth time.
