The star system =============== In this part of the site you can read about my characters, whom I call "stars". It's as simple as that. The star system is a concept that the famous mangaka Osamu Tezuka used in all his works. It consists of building a large cast of characters who are treated as actors (stars) and may be cast in different roles in different works. Every character in a star system has a base appearance and personality that are explored in the context of the work in which the star appears. For example, Astro, the protagonist of Astro Boy, appears as a supporting character in a chapter of Black Jack. Tezuka even liked to joke about much he paid each of his stars for their roles. The idea then is to build my own cast, so that I can put my stars in different situations, stories and projects that may possibly even be inconsistent with respect to each other. The stars will adapt to the work that needs them. The pages in this section describe the stars in the context of their lives in the city of Shinano, but if a star appears in another work, their circumstances might be completely different, even if they act and look the same. That version of the character may then be considered canonical in that context.
