This was a crazy participation ROOPHLOCH for me! The journey took
me to all kinds of places I haven't been in awhile. Out of the lab
and into the field! 08 of 09 successful attempts; not so bad! I
also got to mess around with technologies: the 8849 / Unihertz
TANK05, QR codez, NFC, interdevice communications and sensors (BT,
imaging, NFC, wifi), and SETEC ASTRONOMY, w0rd!
My ROOPHLOCH 2026 efforts didn't start until mid-September I wanted
at least 1 participation phost this year. Obviously, I had phosts
greater than one.
Thanks, again, to solderpunk for creating and hosting this
wonderful annual smolnet event and helping keep smolnet alive
(don't let us starve!) Looking forward to reading other ROOPHLOCH
phosts in the community. I know that I can have at least one
opportunity a year where I can go outside and feed the gophers ;)
All ROOPHLOCH 2026 phosts can be found collected
(DIR) here.

POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
Not really sure about how much I was going to do to participate...I
just needed to put something out there.
Phost was via Sonim XP3900 flip phone with an ssh session over 4G
to booji(dought)mutated(dought)net.
LOCATION: Griffith Park
POST-PHOST COMMENTS: The TANK05 was connected over bluetooth to the
TANK01 in hotspot mode. ssh was used to connect to booji and the
phost was generated. Phost was transferred to sdf afterwards.
LOCATION: Brand Park
POST-PHOST COMMENTS: Similiar transfer like last time, except the
phost was created locally on the TANK 05, which connected to the
TANK01 over bluetooth and was uploaded via sftp to booji. Transfer
to sdf after.
Practiced guitar for 0.5 hours in the shaded bleachers behind home
plate. Grounds keeper's equipment did not resonate with my
practice.
LOCATION: Parking Lot - FAIL!
POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
Tried something different this round. Since the TANK05 has a built
in projector, I wondered how this would do with a QR code projected
on a wall and read by another device. I created the phost with QR
and barcode scanner downloaded from F-droid. The QR code was a
text code and was projected on the wall. My flip phone was unable
to read the code with the QR scanner I had sideloaded on there. I
think the phost was too long and the QR code was too dense.
LOCATION: Hahamongna Watershed Park / JPL
POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
Another failed attempt at projected QR code, possibly due to too
much sunlight, even though I was in the shade. The phost QR code
was transferred using the screen instead of the projector so I
could at least have a successful phost.
LOCATION: Angeles National Forest
POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
This phost was created in the forest, but uploaded at the edge of
the forest, due to no cell service in the forest.
Practiced guitar for the Great OutDoors (GOD) for an hour in a
shady turnoff along the Angeles Crest Highway. Nice view :)

POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
Used the Banana Split app found on f-droid. This uses Shamir's
Secret Sharing, "...an efficient secret sharing algorithm for
distributing private information (the "secret") among a group,
first developed by Adi Shamir in 1979. The secret cannot be
revealed unless a minimum number of the group's members act
together to pool their knowledge. To achieve this, the secret is
mathematically divided into parts (the "shares") from which the
secret can be reassembled only when a sufficient number of shares
are combined. SSS has the property of information-theoretic
security, meaning that even if an attacker steals some shares, it
is impossible for the attacker to reconstruct the secret unless
they have stolen a sufficient number of shares."

POST-PHOST COMMENTS:
This phost utilized NFC Tags. I had some blank, writable NFC
sticker tags and found the NFC Archiver [1] on f-droid, which
allows you to store and restore files or text across multiple NFC
tags. The tags I have are NTAG215, which has a capacity of 504
bytes each. The phost was compressed, but not encrypted, which is
an option, and written to 3 NFC tags. The tags were scanned out of
order and the phost was able to be reassembled for phosting.
Another neat tool to mess around with for SETEC ASTRONOMY.
The longer I stayed in the park, the m0ar shady it got. An old
lady with a box of Popeye's chicken sat at the picnic table facing
me and just kept sitting there, staring at me. Had to split when I
got annoyed by the obnoxious tweakerz, sporting their ape drapes
and crankin' freedom rawk from their IROC-Z.

Stopped by a friend's house on the way home from the Griffith
Observatory. The burned trap house is finally getting demolished.
It's been sitting there for years.
