AT&T has me upset. They are sunsetting their 3G network soon and
sent me one of their throwaway phones to replace my current phone.
I did not want a replacement but they sent me one anyways. Now they
want to deactivate my SIM and activate the one they sent out with
the replacement. My phone is not old and I just started using it
a few months ago. It is a Unihertz Titan and it is a 4G phone, but
it is not on their mobile phone whitelist. I do not know why it is
not. Probably because it is not a phone they sell and is not running
       their brand of spyware.

If I have to change out my phone again, I will not be happy. I
wonder if the Pinephone will work with AT&T. I'm not sure what the
current state of development is for this device. My essential needs
are voice, text, bluetooth, wifi and hotspot capabilities. Part of
me just wants to go back to a dumbphone, which I just stopped using
when I got the Titan. I still have that phone(Sonim XP5700), but it
is not on the AT&T whitelist[1] that I found on the intarwebz :(

This is not the first time that one of my mobiles became
inoperable due to provider upgrades. The Nokia N900 comes to mind.
That one stopped working after they sunsetted the GPRS/2.5G network.
That upgrade really upset me. I still have the device and it does
still works over wifi, but it is no longer part of my everyday carry.

If I do have to switch to a whitelisted device, I will probably end
up going back to a feature dumbphone. I just don't like the waste
and not being able to use a device that I want to use that is
technologically capable of running on their network but is not
allowed because of their damn whitelist. </annoyed>
