The Society seeks to promote research, scholarship, collaboration, exchange, and support among its membership, and to actively foster the development of new regional and national organizations. SITE is a society of the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE). You are invited to participate in this international forum which offers many opportunities to explore the research, development, and applications in this important field. SITE 96 is hosted by Arizona State University West, Arizona State University, New Mexico State University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona. SCOPE ----- The Conference invites proposals from the introductory through advanced level on all topics related to: (1) the use of information technology in teacher education, and (2) instruction about information technology in > Preservice > Inservice > Graduate Teacher Education > Faculty & Staff Development Proposals which address the theory, research and applications as well as describe innovative projects are especially encouraged. Including Special Strands ------------------------- This Conference will feature session strands in specific content areas. Presentations especially are invited from participants with interest in educational areas such as: CONFERENCE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES ----------------------------- The Conference Program includes a wide range of interesting and useful activities including keynote and invited talks, paper presentations, demonstration/poster sessions, tutorials and workshops, panels, roundtables, and birds-of-a-feather discussions. Papers (25 minutes): Papers on all aspects of information technology and teacher education are invited. Accepted paper presentations will be published in the "Technology and Teacher Education Annual, 1996," which will be distributed by Allyn & Bacon, a leading educational publisher, and in the CD version of the Annual. Panels (1 hour): Panels will consist of at least four members presenting different aspects of a relevant issue and interacting with the audience to widen the discussion. Roundtables (30 minutes): These sessions allow maximum interaction in informal, small-group discussions on a single topic and give new presenters an opportunity to participate without writing a full, publishable paper. The format is appropriate for papers, projects, or work-in-progress that encourage discussion. Presenters are encouraged to bring copies of their work to share. Tutorials & Workshops (half-day): Tutorials and Workshops are intended to enhance the skills and broaden the perspective of their attendees. They should be designed to introduce a framework for learning a new area or to provide advanced training in an area. Demonstrations/Posters (90 minutes): These sessions enable presenters to demonstrate and discuss research, development and applications in progress in order to gain feedback and to establish contacts. Presenters are required to arrange for their own systems software and hardware. A table, poster board, and electricity will be supplied. INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPATION ----------------------------- - All communication will be with the principal presenter who is responsible for communicating with presenters of that session. - All presenters must register and pay the registration fee (approximately $185 members, $225 non-members). - The Conference will attempt to secure basic equipment needed for presenters. However, when equipment cannot be obtained, presenters may need to bring or rent equipment. PROCEEDINGS ----------- Accepted papers will be published by AACE in the Technology and Teacher Education Annual series and distributed by Allyn & Bacon. Books in this series serve as major source documents indicating the current state of teacher education and information technology. The Annuals also are distributed on ERIC microfiche and through the Society's Internet server. In addition, the 1995 edition will be published as a searchable electronic book on CD-ROM. Copies of the 1995 Annual are available from AACE. PAPER AWARDS ------------ All presented papers will be considered for Best Paper Awards within several categories. Award winning papers will be invited for publication in the "Journal of Technology and Teacher Education" and will also be highlighted in the AACE periodical "Educational Technology Review."
