About the Mathematics Archives Gopher The primary goal of the Mathematics Archives Gopher is to provide you with access to most public domain and shareware software and many other materials which can used in the teaching of mathematics at the community college, college and university level. A database consisting of information of the above mentioned software and about commercial packages which also can be used in the teaching of mathematics is accessible through this gopher. This database contains abstracts, reviews, references to reviews and other information about these software packages. For more information on the organization of the Mathematics Archives Gopher, return to the main menu and choose the menu item, Organization of the Mathematics Archives Gopher. In addition, the Mathematics Archives Gopher will attempt to provide access to all other gophers which would provide information in the teaching of mathematics. We have also provided access to many gophers of interest to mathematicians; we will be sorting through these gophers, picking out items and reorganizing those which correspond to our primary goal mentioned above. The Mathematics Archives is supported by the National Science Foundation (ILI Leadership Grant No. DUE-9351398), the State of Tennessee Science Alliance and the Departments of Mathematics at Calvin College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. (Further information is available through the National Science Foundation Gopher (STIS) accessible from the Mathematics Archives by selecting: Other Mathematics Gophers and Anonymous FTP Sites/ and then National Science Foundation Gopher (STIS)/ or by gophering directly to stis.nsf.gov using port 70.) The directors of the Mathematics Archives are Earl D. Fife (Calvin College, efife@archives.math.utk.edu) and Larry Husch (The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, husch@archives.math.utk.edu). Newsletters which contain abstracts of recent additions or revisions of software and other materials are sent out via e-mail. To be placed on the mailing list, contact Earl Fife about the Macintosh newsletter and Larry Husch about the MSDOS newsletter. The MSDOS newsletter is posted to the electronic news groups sci.math.*. All executables located on the Mathematics Archives are checked for viruses; however, the ultimate responsibility of checking the software for viruses belongs to you as the downloader of the packages. You as the downloader of the packages are also solely responsible and liable for all use you make of these packages. Neither the moderators, reviewers, contributors of information, nor the institutions with which these are associated shall be held liable for any use that may be made of files obtained from the archive. All transactions to the Mathematics Archives are logged; when possible, we will use these logs to track usage, to inform downloaders of new versions of packages and to solicit reviews of these packages.
