Educational Technology Fellowship Available: Region V and Region VII Schools Form Innovative Collaboration The instructional technology departments at the University of Virginia and the University of Houston are establishing an innovative educational technology fellowship program. Participants in this program will have the opportunity to work with faculty at both universities on several national projects. Telecomputing will be used extensively in the establishment of this collaborative effort. Participants in the program will receive a graduate degree (master's or doctoral) in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia upon completion of degree requirements. Fellowship recipients will join a team working on several national projects. One aspect of this program will be the opportunity to participate in the publication of Interface, the nationally distributed newsletter for technology and teacher education. Another fellowship activity will involve working with a team which is establishing a national Internet information server for STATE (the Society for Technology and Teacher Education.) A third activity will involve establishment of collaborative educational projects among teachers in Virginia and Texas. There are several circumstances which which make this collaborative fellowship program involving two different universities possible. Both universities are lead schools in different regions of the IBM Teacher Education Grant consortium. (The University of Virginia is the lead school for Region V, while the University of Houston is the lead school for Region VII.) In addition, both states have established educational telecomputing networks for teachers. The Virginia Public Education Network (Virginia's PEN) provides Internet access to teachers in Virginia, while the Texas Education Network (TENET) provides Internet access to teachers in that state. Both programs also have strong interests in constructivist applications of educational technologies. Participants in this fellowship program will receive a stipend of $12,000 during the 1993-94 academic year. Prior experience with educational technologies is not a requirement. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with experience and interest in the public schools.
