Region VIII Consortium Trains at Arizona State March in Arizona is a wonderful time to hold a training seminar for the participating IBM grant schools. Attendees from Alaska, Montana and Oregon enjoyed three days of the beautiful warm weather of this southwestern state while exchanging information and ideas about teacher preparation. The conference was led by Dr. Gary Bitter, Director, Technology Based Learning and Research, on Friday, March 13. John Czabala, Program Manager, EduQuest, and other IBM representatives were guests, available to answer questions and provide suggestions throughout the session. Conference sessions included integrating technology into the classroom, using ToolBook, Microsoft Works, Excelsior Gradebook, and Linkway, as well as using presentation graphics applications to visually display ideas. Conference participants were introduced to two IBM/NSF projects currently under development by the Department of Technology Based Learning and Research at Arizona State University: Teaching Mathematics Methods Using Interactive Multimedia Videodisc (TMMUIV) and the Hispanic Math Project. Both of these products incorporate multimedia and are on the leading edge of technology and utilize innovative teaching concepts. Following this conference, Arizona State hosted the 12th Annual Microcomputers in Education Conference. This conference brings together educators throughout the country to view and discuss new technology as it is developed.
