Spotlight: Iona College Summer Institute in Educational Computing for Teachers Iona College recently held its seventh Summer Institute in Educational Computing for Teachers. The Institute brought together approximately eighty K-12 teachers from the New York metropolitan area for 8 days of speakers and workshops. Each year the Institute focuses on the most current topics in technology and education. Some of this year's workshops included: multimedia in education; networking; and computer applications in language arts. In addition to workshops, each day's session began with a keynote address from a leader in the field of either education or industry. Speakers included: Karen Rubin of IBM; Larry Lipsitz, editor of Educational Technology; and Dr. William Costanzo, author of The Electronic Text. Reactions to the Institute were extremely positive. Teachers attending felt that the Institute's format provided an excellent opportunity to maintain and improve their skills and to interact with colleagues who share similar interests. The Institute was organized by Robert Schiaffino, Coordinator of Ionas Graduate Program in Educational Computing, and Brian Monahan, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
