According to Navigating the Internet, the new book by Mark Gibbs 
and Richard Smith:

     -- It is estimated that the Internet now connects over 6,000 
        networks.

     -- More than 1,000 computers are added to the Internet each 
        day.

     -- The amount of data crossing the Internet grows by 10 
        percent per month. 
 
     -- Each day  around 10 million people worldwide directly (and 
        some 25 million indirectly) use the Internet to send and 
        receive electronic mail.
