tla has several tricks for avoiding doing diffs.  If two files have the 
same device and inode, they're the same because they're really one 
hard-linked file.  If a file's size and mtime are the same as in its 
inode sig, it's considered unchanged.

Library revisions are never updated.  They're only added or removed.

When you commit a tree, new inode sigs are calculated for that revision.
