I've managed to get the ESS 1868 sound card to work under muLinux,
But only if you use win95 and "restart in msdos mode".
I think what I did was to use the DOS driver(which loads via config.sys and autoexec.bat) instead of the windows95 driver and default settings.
io 220 irq 5 DMA 1 (under DOS) which thereby DID allow the DSP to reset when booting into muLinux.
Just make sure that whatever settings you use under muLinux match the settings the card uses under DOS
Config.sys and autoexec.bat do run when doing a soft boot from win95 to DOS.
I've also managed to get several other "$20 cheapie" sound cards the were "sound blaster pro compatible" running.(one ran using the PC speaker driver*grin*)
A LONG time ago I posted to this mailing list a list of hardware that I did get to work..........so maybe digging through the OLD mail might help.(maybe 1.5-2 years ago) and also a small list of apps that could be dropped in and ran without a hitch.
Hopes this helps some.........
