General University Entrance Requirements

To qualify for admission to the undergraduate programmes of the University:
 
(a)   A student from Hong Kong must
	
      either  (i):
      obtain at the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE)  
	results that satisfy requirements of the Hong Kong Examinations 
	Authority (HKEA) for entry to the Hong Kong Advanced Level 
	Examination (HKALE); and
      obtain Grade E or above in Chinese Language and English Language 
	(syllabus B) at the same sitting as other subjects in HKCEE; an 
	achievement of Grade C in English Language (syllabus A) shall be 
	considered as equivalent to a Grade E in English Language 
	(syllabus B); and
      obtain Grade E or above in one Advanced Level (AL) subject in the 
	HKALE; and
      obtain Grade E or above in two of the three Advanced Supplementary 
	(AS) subjects, including Chinese Language & Culture, Use of English 
	and Liberal Studies; or for applicants of BSc (Hons) in Combined 
	Sciences only, obtain Grade E or above in one of these three AS 
	subjects and another AS/AL subject; and
      obtain Grade E or above in one additional AS subject (or a second AL 
	subject); 
	
      or (ii):        
      obtain passes in two Advanced Level and three Ordinary Level subjects 
	in the General Certificate of Education/General Certificate of 
	Secondary Education (GCE/GCSE) Examination;
      
      or (iii):
      obtain an International Baccalaureate Diploma;

      or (iv):
      obtain an acceptable equivalent qualification.

(b)   A student from outside Hong Kong may apply for admission with an 
      acceptable alternative qualification, and will be considered on an 
      individual basis, subject to the availability of vacancies.  
      He/she should be able to follow the University teaching programme 
      based on bilingual instruction in Chinese and English.

(c)   Special students who are non-native speaker of Chinese and who satisfy 
      Requirement (a) or (b) above, with the exception of the Chinese 
      language requirement, may apply for admission to a course in which 
      students take subjects with English as the medium of instruction, and 
      the language requirement for Chinese is substituted by either French 
      or German. Applications will be considered on an individual basis.
